How to crochet a heart – Free heart pattern

Do you need a quick and easy Valentine’s day pattern? This cute amigurumi heart pattern of mine can be whipped up in a heartbeat.

With this pattern, you can make it as small or as big as you want to by just adjusting the hook size and yarn you are using. You can use a 2.5mm crochet hook with 4ply or double knit cotton for a keychain project. If you want to make a scatter cushion, go with a 10mm crochet hook and some mega chunky blanket or acrylic yarn.

You will now be making the top part of your heart. You will do this by splitting the heart into two sections at the top. Make sure that you have 48 stitches at the end of round 15.

FIRST HALF OF THE HEART:

16: SC in next 24 stitches, SKIP the remaining 24 stitches and SL st into the first stitch you started with [24]

17: SC in the same stitch, SC in the next 23 stitches [24]

18: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

19: SC in each stitch around [18]

20: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

21: (DEC) x6 [6]

Leave a longish strand of yarn to close the top of the heart, But don’t do it yet till you have finished the second half.

SECOND HALF OF THE HEART:

The first part of your heart should be on the right side of your hook when you start, to ensure that the second part of the crochet heart isn’t inside out.

22: Insert your hook into the stitch next to the first part, SL st and SC in the same stitch, SC in next 23 stitches [24]

23: SL st and SC in the first stitch connecting the second piece together. SC in next 23 stitches [24]

24: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

STUFF THE BOTTOM AND FIRST HALF OF THE HEART.

25: SC in each stitch around [18]

26: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

Stuff the second part of the heart.

27: (DEC) x6 [6]

Leave a longish strand of yarn to close the top of the heart.

Stuff more on both sides if needed to make sure both sides of the heart is equal. Once you are happy with it, you can close the top of the hear on both sides.
