I have a brand new cuddle me design for you and this one is FREE. Allow me to introduce to you the Cuddle me Christmas Bear. An super cute crochet Bear lovey with an adorable Christmas hat. This little guy is ready to set anyone in the Holiday mood!

I made this bear with Elle’s Charity Pullskein yarn. This crochet bear is worked from the top down and then his pieces are attached afterwards. Don’t worry!! it is easier than it seems, trust me.

How to crochet a Christmas bear

What you will need to make this crochet bear:

You will need four different colours of yarn. I used Elle’s Charity Pullskein double knit/light worsted weight yarn. But you can use any yarn of your choice. Remember to adjust your hook size if you are going to use a thinner or bulkier yarn.

  • Colour A: Head,body,limbs 60g
  • Colour B: nose 15g
  • Colour C: paws and embroidery 10g
  • Colour D: Hat 15g
  • Colour E: Hat 10g
  • black and white embroidery thread for eyes and nose

The colour I used that is optional:

  • Colour A: Brown (Camel)
  • Colour B: Beige
  • Colour C: Dark brown (Rust)
  • Colour D: Red (Wine)
  • Colour E: White

Other tools and martials you will need to crochet this bear lovey is:

  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

IMPORTANT: Safety eyes are a choking hazard to any child under 5, please inform your customer of this if they request safety eyes.

Stitch terms:

  • SC: Single Crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip stitch
  • MC: Magic Circle
  • HDC: Half double crochet
  • DC: Double crochet

 

Stitches:

HDC: Yarn Over, insert your hook, pull up a loop, Yarn over, pull through all three loops on hook.

DC: Yarn Over, insert your hook, pull up a loop, Yarn Over, and pull through two loops, Yarn Over, Pull through two loops.

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9: (7 SC, INC) x 6 [54]

10-16: SC in each stitch around [54]

(If using safety eyes: Place eyes between round 10/11, 6 stitches apart) Use white cotton thread to embroider the white stitch under each eye. – The embroider eyes option at the end of the pattern.

17: (7 SC, DEC) x 6 [48]

18: (6 SC, DEC) x 6 [42]

19: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

20: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]- Stuff the head

21: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

22: SC in each stitch around [24]

25: (DEC) x6 [6] – Do not cut yarn

The body requires no stuffing, working in DC stitches.

BODY:

26: Ch 2 in next stitch, DC in the same stitch,( INC)x5 [12]

30: (4 DC, INC) x6 [36]

32-34: DC in each stitch around [42] *3 Rounds*

Fold the bottom of the body in half and sc 15 stitches across the edge to close the body

Make this bear into an original lovey attaching the head and arms to a C2C blanket

MUZZLE:

COLOUR B: 

1: SC 6 in the MC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2SC, INC) x6 [24]

Slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the muzzle onto the face.

NOSE EMBROIDERY:

Before attaching the nose to the face, make a small triangle with your dark brown yarn. Create the nose split and smile with a vertical and horizontal stitch. 

EARS: (Make two) 

COLOUR A: 

1: SC 6 in the MC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4-6:SC in each stitch around [18] 

Press the ear flat between your thumb and index finger and slip stitch or SC 9 across closing the bottom of the ear. End with a slip stitch, Leave a strand of yarn to sew the ears on top of the head.

TAIL:

COLOUR A: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3-4: SC in each stitch around [12] 

Leave a strand of yarn to attach the tail to the back of the body.

ARMS: (Make two )

COLOUR A: 

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: INC x5 [10] – Stuff the arm as you go.

3-21: SC in each stitch around [10] 

Press the arms flat between your thumb and index finger and slip stitch or SC5 across closing the bottom of the arms. End with a slip stitch, leaving a strand of yarn to sew the arms onto the sides of your bear.

LEGS: (Make two )

COLOUR C: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

Change to colour A: 

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5:SC in each stitch around [24]

6: (DEC) x6, SC in next 12 stitches [18] – Stuff the legs

7: (DEC) x6, SC in next 6 stitches [12]

8-15: SC in each stitch around [12] *8 Rounds*

Press the legs flat between your thumb and index finger and slip stitch or sc 6 across closing the bottom of the legs, making sure the decreased section of the paw is in front. End with a slip stitch; leave a strand of yarn to sew the legs to the body. Sew the legs to the bottom of the body starting on the first stitch from each outer corner.

Facial embroidery:

Eyes:

1: Start with the black thread, and make four vertical stitches for the eyes on either side of the nose. (Two stitch rounds long). Make a small horizontal stitch on the outer corners for the lash.

Take a strand of dark brown yarn and at the top of each eye make a small stitch at an angle to form the brows.

CHRISTMAS HAT:

COLOUR D: 

1:MC, 6 HDC [6]

2:HDC in each stitch around [6]

3:(HDC, INC) x3 [9]

4:HDC in each stitch around [9]

5:(2HDC, INC) x3 [12]

6; HDC in each stitch around [12]

7:(HDC, INC) x 6 [18]

8:(2HDC, INC) x6 [24]

9:HDC in each stitch around [24]

10:CH6, SKIP 6 stitches, HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 23 stitches [30]

11: SC, SC in the front loop of the chain 6, SC in the next 23 stitches [30]

Change to colour E: (White)

12: (4DC, INC) x6 [36]

Slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the hat on top of the head. The opening of the hat should be in front and stitch the ear through it. Use the strand of yarn to sew that Christmas hat in place.

POPOM:

COLOUR E: 

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: INC x5 [10]

3-4: SC in each stitch around [10] add stuffing

5: DEC x5 [5]

Slip stich and leave a strand of yarn to sew the pompom on the tip of the hat.

Now you have an adorable, squishy Christmas bear lovey that you can list in your shop or have it gifted! I think these would make beautiful Holiday Christmas stockings for babies or one-year-old birthdays! presents!
