I just love his little removable beanie and scarf!

Here is the pattern!

Yarn:

I used Elle pure gold double knit/ light worsted weight yarn to make this Penguin

  • Color A: Head prt1/wings 30g
  • Color B: Head prt2/ Hat/ Scarf 30g
  • Color C: Body 30g
  • Color D: Beak 20g
  • Color E: Feet 20g
  • Colour F: Scarf / Hat 20g

Hook:

  • 3.5mm Crochet hook

Other materials:

  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

Stitch terms:

  • SC: Single Crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • CH: Chain
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip stitch
  • MC: Magic Circle
  • DC: Double Crochet
  • BLO: Back loop only
  • TYW: Turn your work

 

Stitches:

DC: Yarn Over, insert your hook, pull up a loop, Yarn Over, and pull through two loops, Yarn Over, Pull through two loops.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner, you need to know the basic of amigurumi and working in rounds and how to work from left to right in rows.

HEAD: part one

COLOUR A: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9-16: SC in each stitch around [48] 

The strip between the eyes: You will now be working in rows

R1: SC in next 4 stitches, Ch 1, turn your work [4]

R2: SC in the stitch next to the hook and remaining 3 SC stitches, CH 1, TYW [4]

R3- 7: Repeat R2 [4] 

Slip stitch, Leave a long piece of yarn to sew piece one onto piece two of the head.

HEAD: Part two

COLOUR B: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9-14: SC in each stitch around [48] 

If using safety eyes: Place eyes between rounds 11/12, 8 stitches apart

15: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]

16: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

17: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

18: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

19: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18] – stuff the head

20: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12]

21: (DEC) x6 [6]

Do not overstuff the second part of the head, otherwise, it will not fit into part one.

 

Create the eyelids by adding a couple of stitches of colour B over the corner of the safety eyes.

Assembling the head:

Pull section ONE of the head over part two. Make sure the strip of part one is going down between the center of the eyes. Pull the centerpiece of part one tightly over the face and with your needle attach part one to part two of the head.

Christmas cuddle me bear 

BEAK:

COLOUR D: 

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: SC in each stitch around [5]

3: INC x5 [10]

4: SC in each stitch around [10]

Stuff the beak a little bit. Leave a strand of yarn to attach the beak to the face, where the strip ends.

BODY:

COLOUR C: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9-10: SC in each stitch around [48] 

11: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]

12: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

13: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30] start stuffing the body

14-15: SC in each stitch around [30] 

16: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

17-18: SC in each stitch around [24] 

19: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

20: SC in each stitch around [18] stuff the remaining part of the body.

Slip stitch and leave a long strand to sew the body to the head. The white and black part of the head should be in the center of the body.

WINGS: Make two

COLOUR A:

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: SC in each stitch around [18]

5: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

6-9: SC in each stitch around [12] 

10: DEC x6 [6]- No stuffing required.

Slip stitch, leave a long strand to sew the wing to the side of the body.

FEET: Make two

COLOUR E: 

1: CH5, (2 SC in 2nd chain from hook), SC in next 2 stitches, 4 SC in the last stitch. Now working on the opposite side of the chain5, SC in the next 2 stitches, 2SC in the last stitch. [12]

2: (1SC, INC) x6 [18]

3: SC in each stitch around [18]

4: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12]

5: SC in each stitch around [12] – Stuff the feet at the front

6: (1 SC, DEC) x 4 [8]

7-8: SC in each stitch around [8] 

Slip stitch, SC 4 or slip stitch across the bottom of the foot by folding it in half between your thumb and index finger. Leave a strand of yarn to sew the foot to the bottom of the body. The feet should be pointing outwards.

BEANIE:
You will now be working from left to right in rows.
COLOUR : (Your choice) I used two colours changing every two rounds

R1: Ch15, DC in the third chain from the hook, DC in each of the remaining chains [13]
R2: CH 2, DC in BLO across each stitch, TYW [13]
R3: REPEAT row 2 till your beanie is about 21 rows long. [13]
Note: Tension of stitches can vary from person to person, keep on measuring the beanie around your penguin’s head to make sure it will fit.
Ribbing:
1: CH2, DC 40 stitches evenly across the edge of the beanie [40]


Fold your beanie in half and slip stitch along the side. End with a slip stitch and leave a long strand of yarn to close the top of your beanie. Weave the strand of yarn across the top of the beanie and pull it very tight. Give it a couple of knots to make sure it is closed at the top. Turn your beanie inside out.

POMPOM:

Make a pompom with your fingers or a fork and attach it to the top of the beanie.

1: Wrap the yarn around the teeth of the fork.

2: Take a separate piece of yarn and tie the yarn together in the center.

3: Pull the ball off the fork and cut the yarn on either side.

4: Give the pompom a little shake to fluff it out.

5: Cut off the long strands of yarn and shape the pompom into a little ball.

6: With the separate yarn tail ends, pull them through the top of the beanie and give it a couple of knots on the inside to secure the pompom in place, Cut off the long ends.

SCARF:

You will now be working from left to right in rows.

COLOUR : (Your choice)

R1: Ch6, DC in the third chain from the hook, DC in each of the remaining chains [4]

R2: CH 2, DC across each stitch, TYW [4]

R3: REPEAT row 2 till the scarf is about 28 rows long. [4]

Note: Tension of stitches can vary from person to person, keep on measuring the scarf around your penguin’s neck to make sure the scarf is long enough.

TASSELS:

1: Wrap the yarn 16 times around your four fingers.

2: Only cut one side of the loops to create the tassels.

3: Taking two strands at a time you will weave in the tassels on the edges of your scarf

4: Cut the tassels to an even length.

 

Optional: You can add more tassels to the ends of the scarf or make two little pompoms to attach to the ends of the scarf.
