Panda bear snuggler – FREE pattern

The Christmas Season and all those amazing Christmas crafts are now almost behind us, but don’t worry because I’ll be bringing some more nice and fun crochet projects for you every Tuesday!

Time really flies when you are having fun and I sure did have fun creating this super cute cuddle me Panda bear!

I made this panda bear with Elle’s Charity Pullskein yarn. This crochet bear is worked from the top down and then his pieces are attached afterwards, but I have also included a no seem option for you in the pattern.

Here is the pattern:

Stitch terms:

  • SC: Single Crochet
  • CH: Chain
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip stitch
  • MC: Magic Circle
  • DC: Double crochet

Stitches:

DC: Yarn Over, insert your hook, pull up a loop, Yarn Over, and pull through two loops, Yarn Over, Pull through two loops.

Yarn needed:

Light worsted weight yarn/ Double knit

Hook:

3.5 mm hook

Note: If you have tight tension I would suggest that you use a 4mm or 4.5mm for the body only.

Other tools:

  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional) IMPORTANT: Safety eyes are a choking hazard to any child under 5, please inform your customer of this if they request safety eyes.
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

Skill:

Easy, need to know the basic of attaching limbs and working in the rounds, using a stitch marker

NOTE: For the no-sewing of the legs, you have to make them first.

ARMS & LEGS: (Make Four)

COLOUR A: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5:SC in each stitch around [24]

6: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18] – Stuff the legs

7: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12]

8-15: SC in each stitch around [12] 

Press the legs flat between your thumb and index finger and slip stitch or sc 6 across closing the bottom of the legs. If you are not going to attach the legs using whipstitch, weave in the yarn ends.

Head and body (One section)

Head:

COLOUR B: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9: (7 SC, INC) x 6 [54]

10-16: SC in each stitch around [54] 

(If using safety eyes: Place eyes between round 10/11, 6 stitches apart) Use white cotton thread to embroider the white stitch under each eye. – The embroider eyes option at the end of the pattern.

17: (7 SC, DEC) x6 [48]

18: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]

19: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

20: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

21: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

22: SC in each stitch around [24] stuff head

23: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

24: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12]

25: (DEC) x6 [6]

BODY:

The body requires no stuffing, working in DC stitches.CH2 at the beginning of each round doesn’t count as a stitch. Slip stitch at the top of each CH2 when starting the next round.

Change to colour A: (Black)

26: Ch 2,(INC x 6), [12]

27: CH2, (1 DC, INC) x6 [18]

28: CH2, (2 DC, INC) x6 [24]

29: CH2, (3 DC, INC) x6 [30]

30: CH2, (4 DC, INC) x6 [36]

Change to colour B: (White)

31: CH2, (5 DC, INC) x6 [42]

32-34: CH2, DC in each stitch around [42] 

35: CH2, (5 DC, DEC) x6 [36]

36: CH2, DC in each stitch around [36]

37: CH2, (4 DC, DEC) x6 [30]

38: CH2, DC in each stitch around [30]

LEGS:

Attach the legs while closing the bottom of the body. Place the leg next to the stitches of the body. Insert your hook through all three stitches, pull up a slip stitch, repeat x5, slip stitch the opening between the legs [3], place the second leg next to the body, and slip stitch 6 times through the body and leg till you have reached the other corner, end with a slip stitch and weave in the ends. ARMS:

Attach the arms using a whipstitch method, Attach the arms at the front of the body in the 2nd round of DC stitches counting from the head down. 

EARS: (Make two) – Don’t stuff the ears

COLOUR A

1: SC 6 in the MC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4:SC in each stitch around [18]

5: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

Press the ear flat between your thumb and index finger and slip stitch or sc 6 across closing the bottom of the ear. End with a slip stitch, Leave a strand of yarn to sew the ears with a whipstitch to the head. Counting from the center of the head 3 rounds down, between rounds 4-8

EYE PATCHES: (Make two)

COLOUR A: 

1: CH5, (2 SC in 2nd chain from hook), SC in next 2 stitches, 4 SC in the last stitch. Now working on the opposite side of the chain5, SC in the next 2 stitches, 2SC in the last stitch. [12]

2: (1SC, INC ) x6 [18]

Slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn for sewing the patches onto the face using the running stitch method.

The eye patches need to be sewn on first then the muzzle. Attach the eye patches between rounds 7-14 of the head.

EYES:

Using white yarn embroider long-running stitches on each patch to create the eyes

 

MUZZLE:

COLOUR B: 

1: SC 6 in the MC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5-7: SC in each stitch around [24]

Stuff the muzzle

Slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the muzzle onto the face.

NOSE EMBROIDERY:

Before attaching the nose to the face, make 5 horizontal stitches on top of each other with your dark black yarn, and make a long vertical stitch from the bottom of the nose to make the split-lip for the muzzle

Attach the muzzle with a whipstitch between rounds 9-17

 

TAIL:

COLOUR A: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3-4: SC in each stitch around [12]

Stuff the tail

Leave a strand of yarn to attach the tail to the back of the body. Count two DC rounds up from the bottom of the body.

FLOWER:

COLOUR 1:

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

Change to colour 2:

3: [CH2, DC x 3, CH2, SC in the same stitch ] SC in the next stitch.

4: Repeat round 3 x5 (Ending the flower with 6 petals)

End off with a slip stitch, Leaving a strand of yarn to attach the flower to the side of the ear.
