Amigurumi puppy – Free crochet pattern

Happy new year my favorite crafter friend! This is the first Free Tuesday pattern of 2023!

Today you will be making your own stuffed puppy. This amigurumi puppy can be a fun and creative project for spring that is just around the corner for some. 

 This puppy pattern is designed for beginners and more advanced creators that want some quick work up projects for their next market.

Here is your FREE puppy pattern

Supplies:

  • 3.0 mm hook
  • One or two colours of double knit/ light worsted yarn 50g
  • Bit of pink yarn for the nose

Other tools:

  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needl

I used Elle yarns, the brand is Charity Pullskein DK in the colours White and Fourseasons

Stitch terms:

  • SC: Single Crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip stitch
  • MC: Magic Circle

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner, you need to know the basic of amigurumi and working in rounds

Save this little crochet puppy for later!

EYE PATCH:

Colour B: 

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: INC x5 [10]

3: (SC, INC) x5 [15]

slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the eye patch to the face. Place the safety eye in the center of the patch before attaching it to the face.

HEAD:

Colour A: 

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7-8: SC in each stitch around [36] 

9: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

10-12: SC in each stitch around [42] 

13: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

14-18: SC in each stitch around [48] 

Inserts safety eyes between rounds 14-15, about 11 stitches apart. Note: At this point you can sew the patch to the face.

19: (6 SC, DEC) x 6 [42]

20: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

21: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30] start stuffing the head 

22: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

23: (2 SC, DEC) x 6 [18]

24: (SC, DEC) x6 [12] – Don’t cut yarn continue with the body!

NECK:

stuff the head fully by this point. Stuff the neck as you go.

Colour A: (White)

25-26: SC in each stitch around [12]

BODY:

27: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

28: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

29: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

30-31: SC in each stitch around [30]

32: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

33-38: SC in each stitch around [36] 

39: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

40: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

41: (2 SC, DEC) x 6 [18]start stuffing the body

42: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

43: (SC, DEC) x3 [9]

End with a slip stitch. Leaving a short strand, just enough to cross-weave the opening to close it.

NOSE:

Embroider the nose onto the face. Start with a small triangle between rounds 13-16. Fill in the triangle with vertical stitches. Make a vertical stitch down the middle from the tip of the nose for the lip slip.

FRONT LEGS: (Make 2)

Starting at the paw

Colour B:

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: SC in each stitch around [18]

5: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

Stuff the front of the paw.

6: SC in each stitch around [12]

7: (SC, DEC) x4 [8]

8-9: SC in each stitch around [8] 

Change to colour A: 

10-12: SC in each stitch around [8] 

Pinch the arm between your index and thumb and slip stitch or SC approximately 4 sts across, closing up the opening of the front legs. – Repeat with the second leg. Leave a long strand of yarn to sew the leg horizontally onto the front of the body.

EARS: (Make 2)

Colour B: (Rainbow)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: SC in each stitch around [24]

6: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

7: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

8-13: SC in each stitch around [12] 

Pinch the ear between your index and thumb and slip stitch or SC approximately 6 sts across, closing up the top of the ear.- Repeat with the second ear.

Fasten off and leave a strand of yarn to sew the ears to the head. Attach the ears between rounds 6-7 counting from the top of the head.

BACK LEGS: (Make 2)

Starting at the paw

Colour B:

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: SC in each stitch around [24]

6: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

7: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

Stuff the foot

8-9: SC in each stitch around [12] 

Change to colour A: 

10-13: SC in each stitch around [12] 

Pinch the leg between your index and thumb and slip stitch or SC approximately 6 sts across, closing up the opening of the leg. – Repeat with the second leg. Leave a long strand of yarn to sew the legs vertically onto the side of the body.

Although Christmas has not arrived, you can still make this bear just adjusting the colours of his hat or leave it out.

TAIL:

Colour B:

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2-4: SC in each stitch around [5] 

Change to colour A: 

5-12: SC in each stitch around [5] 

End off and leave a strand of yarn to sew the tail to the body. Stuff the tail and attach it to the back of the puppy.

    You have beautiful crocheted toy amigurumi I enjoy seeing all but first I’m going to make the sleeping baby then I would try the little doggie the little puppy then I will search for more of your beautiful patterns thank you so much thank you
