As we gear up for the month of love, what better way to show your affection than with a handmade gift? And what could be cuter and more perfect for Valentine’s Day than a bear holding a heart? That’s right, I have the perfect pattern for you!
Introducing my free Valentine’s Bear pattern, Snuggy Bear, an easy-to-follow project that’s perfect for beginners and a fun way to use up your yarn stash as it uses less than 50g of Yarn. This cute bear is worked from the legs up and features a heart held between its arms, making it the perfect gift for your loved ones.

Size of the crochet bear: If you use the recommended size hook and yarn weight the pattern provides, the bear will be 18cm/ 7 inches.
Skills: This is a beginner-friendly pattern. Basic amigurumi crochet skills are needed. Magic ring, Single crochet, increase and decrease. The head, ears and arms are apart from the body.
What you will need to crochet this Bear
Yarn: less than 50g of three colours.
Double knit/ 8ply/ light worsted weight yarn
- Colour A: Brown 30g
- Colour B: White 5g
- Colour C: Pink 15g
- 3mm hook
- scissors
- stuffing
- 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
- stitch marker
- tapestry needle
- Wire pet grooming brush for mane
Stitch terms:
- SC: Single Crochet
- INC: INCrease
- CH: Chain
- DEC: DECrease
- SLP: Slip stitch
- MC: Magic Circle

1: MC, 6 SC [6]
2: INC x6 [12]
3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]
4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]
5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]
6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]
7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]
8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]
9-14: SC in each stitch around [48]
If using safety eyes: Place eyes between rounds 11/12, 8 stitches apart
15: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]
16: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]
17: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]
18: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]
19: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18] – stuff the head fully

Embroidery eyes: Use thin yarn or thread, and make very loose loops on either side of the nose, about one stitch away from the nose and the eye itself 2 stitches wide. Pick up the loops with two stitches above the eye to create the arch.

MUZZLE:
COLOUR B:
1: MC, 6 SC [6]
2: INC x6 [12]
3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]
4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]
Slip stitch. Leave a strand for sewing before cutting the yarn.
Using some thin yarn or thread, make a small triangle for the nose and a long vertical stitch down the center of the nose to create the lip.
Using the whip-stitch attach the muzzle between rounds 11/18.
EARS: (Make two)
COLOUR A:
1: MC, 6 SC [6]
2: INC x6 [12]
3-4: SC in each stitch around [12] *2 Rounds*
Slip stitch, fold the ear in half pinching it between your fingers, and slip stitch or SC 6 across. Leave a strand for sewing before cutting the yarn. Sew on the ears between rounds 4-6 counting from the center of the head.

Slip stitch, cut the yarn, and weave in the end.
-LEG TWO-
1: MC, 6 SC [6]
2: INC x6 [12]

DO NOT CUT YARN
Take your first leg and slip stitch to connect the two together
9: SC 12 around -Leg one- and continue to SC 12 around -Leg two-[24]
10: SC in each stitch around [24]
11: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]
12: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]
13: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]
14: SC in each stitch around [42]
15: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36] – Stuff the legs
16: SC in each stitch around [36]
17: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]
18-19: SC in each stitch around [30] *2 Rounds*
20: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]
21-22: SC in each stitch around [24]
23: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]
24: (SC, DEC) x6 [12] – stuff the body fully
25: SC in each stitch around [12]
Slip stitch. Leave a strand of yarn for sewing to attach the body to the head.

ARMS: (Make two)
COLOUR A: (Brown)
1: MC, 4 SC [4]
2: INC x4 [8]
3-7: SC in each stitch around [8]
Stuff the arms
Slip stitch, fold the arm in half pinching it between your fingers and slip stitch or SC 4 across, Leave a strand of sewing before cutting the yarn.
Attachment: Sew the arms at a 45-degree angle on the side of the body with the arms facing forward so that the bear can hold on to the heart in front of his tummy.

TAIL:
COLOUR A:
1: MC, 5 SC [5]
3: INC x5 [10]
4-5: SC in each stitch around [10]
Slip stitch. Leave a strand of yarn for sewing. Attach the tail on the back between rounds 11-13.

Starting at the bottom of the heart
1: MC, 6 SC [6]
2: SC in each stitch around [6]
3: INC x6 [12]
4: SC in each stitch around [12]
5: (SC, INC) x6 [18]
6: SC in each stitch around [18]
7: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]
8: SC in each stitch around [24]
The split
9: SC in the next 12 stitches, skip 12 stitches and slip stitch in the first stitch you started with.
10: SC in the same stitch and SC in the remaining 11 stitches [12]
11: SC in each stitch around [12]
12: DEC x6 [6]
Slip stitch. Leave a strand of yarn for closing the top of the heart and sew the heart to the bear’s paw.
Stuff the first half of the heart.
The second top part of the heart:
Insert your hook in the first stitch next to the first section of the heart.
13:SC in the next 12 stitches, slip stitch to connect the two sides together. [12]
14: SC in the same stitch and SC in the remaining 11 stitches [12]
15: SC in each stitch [12] stuff the heart fully by this point
16: DEC x6 [12]
Slip stitch. Leave a strand of yarn for closing the top part of the heart and sewing it to the bear’s paw.
