What will you need to crochet this Fred the dog?

Yarn Needed: Double knit/light worsted yarn. 

I used Charity pullskein double knit from Elle Yarns in the colours beige, soft lime, camel

  • Colour A: Body 60g
  • Colour B: Paws, muzzle 20g
  • Colour C: Ear, Tail tip 15g
  • Colour D: Nose 10g
  • Any colour for the scarf 8g
  • White cotton for the eye highlight
  • A Little bit of brown or black embroidery floss for the facial details.

Hook size: 3.50mm

Slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to assemble the muzzle to the face between rounds 14-20

Slip stitch and leave a longish strand of yarn to attach the body to the bottom of the head. Stuff the body fully at this point

 

Attaching the head:

I use a wood stick or knitting needle to keep the head in place when sewing it on. Use your tapestry needle to sew all around the head going into each stitch of the neck section. Watch my YouTube shorts for tips on sewing on the heads.

Facial details:

WITH SAFETY EYES:

Eyes:

With White cotton yarn, place a long stitch against the outer corner of the eye. Pull the white firmly but not too tight so that the eyes are pulled inward to create the indents for the eyes. Go over with white yarn again for the highlight of the eyes.

Eye rows: With some brown cotton thread, make two vertical stitches above each eye. 9 stitches apart, 3 stitches wide, 3 rounds long

SCARF:

Any colour:

1:Chain 24, 3DC in 3rd chain from the hook, 4DC in each of the remaining 20chains.

End with a slip stitch and a short yarn tail to connect the two corners. Wrap the scarf around the neck and attach the two outer corners of the scarf to the back of the head.
