Snuggler goat – Free pattern

I hope you all have been enjoying the fresh spring days!

As we celebrate spring here in the Southern Hemisphere I thought it would be fitting to make some cute farm animals! So I dived nose first into a new Farm cuddle me pattern and I made this super cute goat!

Let me introduce you to this cuddle me goat!

I had so much fun designing this goat. I love every little detail about him, but my favorite part is his little beard! 

So grab your hook and yarn and start working this fun crochet project!

You will need at least three colours of yarn, scissors, stuffing and a crochet hook to complete this goat pattern.

Size of the crochet goat: If you use the recommended size hook and yarn weight the pattern provides, the hippo will be 28cm/ 11.08 inches.

Skills: This is a beginner-friendly pattern. Basic amigurumi crochet skills are needed. Magic ring, Single crochet, increase and decrease. 

What you will need to crochet this cuddle me mouse

  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle
  • Wire pet grooming brush for mane

Yarn: Double knit / light worsted weight yarn

  • Colour A: Body 60g
  • Colour B: Horns 20g
  • Colour C: Nose and beard 10g
  • Colour D: Hoofs 15g
  • Colour E: Cheeks 10g
  • White cotton for the eye highlight
  • A little bit of brown or black embroidery floss for the facial details.
  • Black and white acrylic yarn if creating felted eyes.

Abbreviations and explanations

  • MC: Magic Ring
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • DC: Double crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip stitch
  • CH: Chain
  • BLO: Back loop only

How to turn an amigurumi pattern in to a low sew pattern

Here is the free goat pattern:

Head:

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9: (7 SC, INC) x6 [54]

10-16: SC in each stitch around [54] 

Insert the eyes between rounds 13/14, with 10 stitches visible between them. (Insert the eyes on the left side of your round end, first eye 11 stitches from the beginning of the round)

17: (7 SC, DEC) x6 [48]

18: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]

19: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

20: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

21: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

22: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]stuff head firmly

23: In the BLO (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12] (Place a stitch marker in the first front loop of this round)

24: (DEC) x6 [6] – close the head, weave in tail

HORNS: (Make two)

COLOUR B:(Brown)

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: INC x5 [10]

3-7: SC in each stitch around [10] stuff the horns

End off with a slip stitch, leaving a strand of yarn to sew the horns onto the head. Attach the horns between rounds 3-6 counting from the top of the head.

Front legs (Make two)

COLOUR D:(Dark grey)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: SC in each stitch around [24]

6: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

Change to colour A: (Gold)

7: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

8-20: SC in each stitch around [12]  Stuff the legs till round 19

End off with a slip stitch, pinch the opening of the arm between your fingers, and slip stitch or SC 6 across to close the arms. Weave in the yarn strand

Back legs (Make two)

COLOUR D:(Dark grey)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5:SC in each stitch around [24]

6: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

Change to colour A: (Gold)

7: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

8-17: SC in each stitch around [12]  Stuff the leg till round 15

End off with a slip stitch, pinch the opening of the feet between your fingers, and slip stitch or SC 6 across to close the leg. Weave in the yarn strand

TAIL:

COLOUR A: (Gold)

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: SC in each stitch around [5]

3: (INC) x5 [10]

4: (SC, INC) x5 [15]

5: SC in each stitch around [15]

6: (SC, DEC) x5 [10]

7-8: SC in each stitch around [10]

End off with a slip stitch, pinch the opening of the tail between your fingers, and slip stitch or SC 5 across to close the tail. Weave in the yarn tail.

NOSE and BLAZE between the eyes

COLOUR C: (White)

1. MC, 6 SC [6]

2. INC x6 [12]

3. (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4. (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5-6. SC in each stitch around [24] 

Don’t cut the yarn continue with the blaze

The Blaze:

1: CH6, SC in the 2nd chain from the hook, SC in the next 4 chains, slip stitch back in the beginning stitch.

2: CH1, turn your work, SC 12 around, slip stitch back into the nose. Slip stitch around the base of the nose till you reach the blaze again.

 

Leave a strand of yarn long enough to sew the nose against the face. The nose and blaze should be attached between rounds 6-20. Leave a small opening to firmly stuff the nose before sewing it against the head.

 

The Beard:

Wrap the yarn 5 times around your fingers, and cut the yarn on one side. attach the strands at the bottom of the nose. Take your wire brush and brush out the strands of the beard.

 

Nose detail: With black cotton thread, make a Y in the center of the nose

CHEEKS: (Make two)

COLOUR E: (Pink)

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: INC x5 [10]

Slip stitch, leave a strand of yarn to sew the cheeks onto the head, attach the cheeks between rounds 16/19 counting from the top of the head.

EARS: (Make two)

COLOUR A:(Gold)

1. SC 4 in the MC [4]

2. SC in each stitch around [4]

3. INC x4 [8]

4. (SC, INC) x4 [12]

5. (2SC, INC) x4 [16]

6-9. SC in each stitch around [16] 

10. (2SC, DEC) x4 [12]

11-15. SC in each stitch around [12] 

Pinch the ear opening between your thumb and index finger. slip stitch across or SC 6 stitches across the opening to close up the ear.

 

Ear fold: Fold the bottom of the ear in half, using your tapestry needle, make a knot with the yarn tail to keep the two outer corners of the ear together.

Leave a long strand of yarn to sew the ear onto the head between

rounds 10-12 on either side of the head under the horn.

Note: Insert the arms and legs- Due to stitch tension and stitch count mishaps or placement of the safety eyes, you might have to adjust the placement of the arms and legs when attaching them while you crochet the body.

The body requires no stuffing, working in DC stitches.(Chain 2 at each round, doesn’t count, slip stitch at the top of each chain 2)

(Rejoin the yarn in the front loop of round 23 of the head where you left a stitch marker)

Attach the legs to the bottom of the body as you SC across. Fold the body in half and make sure the feet line up with the face, If not, slip stitch to the side till it is lined up. Place first legs and SC 6 across {Through the leg stitches, and both sides of the body} Sc next 3 stitches, Place the second leg, SC 6 across through the leg and body. End off with a slip stitch, cut the yarn, and weave in the end.

Eyes:

With White cotton yarn, place a long stitch against the outer corner of the eye. be careful not to pull it so tight that it slips under the eyes.
