Crochet your little unicorn

I’m excited to introduce my free plush unicorn pattern, the perfect addition to your market inventory, a delightful last-minute birthday gift, or a magical stocking stuffer for the upcoming holiday season.
 
This unicorn is simple and easy to make and if you are use to making amigurumi you can whip this pattern up under 2 hours.

►Pattern Details:

Skill Level: Suitable for all levels
Finished Size: Approximately 18cm tall
Yarn: double knit, light worsted weight yarn
Recommended Yarn: At least 100g of yarn in total
Crochet Hook Size: 3.5mm
Tools and Materials Needed: Scissors, stuffing, 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional), stitch marker, tapestry needle

Size of the crochet unicorn: If you use the recommended size hook and yarn weight the pattern provides, the bear will be 18cm/ 7 inches.

 

What you will need to crochet this Bear

Yarn: I used Charity Double knit from Elle yarns

  • Colour A: Body 40g
  • Colour B: Horn 5g
  • Colour C : Hoofs 10g
  • Colour D/E: Mane/Tail 20
  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle
  • Wire pet grooming brush for mane

Stitch terms:

  • MC: Magic Ring
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • DC: Double crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip-stitch
  • CH: Chain

Pattern Explanation:

If you are looking for a pattern to make a mini unicorn in plush yarn you can get this pattern in my shops. I used Alize Velvet yarn to make and design this unicorn. The pattern is much different than the free pattern posted below.

Fasten off and close the opening with the remaining yarn tail. Cross-sew the needle through each stitch and pull tight to close the opening.

FACIAL DETAILS:

Eye highlight, Use a thick double-knit cotton and loop a stitch tight against the outer corner of your safety eye. Tip: Use a little bit of clear craft glue to glue the white stitch against the eye to prevent it from slipping over the eye.

NOSE:

Colour A: (Blue)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

5-6: SC in each stitch around [24]

7: (3 SC, DEC) x4, SC in last 4 sts [20] – stuff the nose a little

slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the nose onto the face between rounds 13 and 19.

Note: Before sewing on the nose completely leave a tiny opening to stuff the nose till it is firm.

EARS: (Make two)

Colour A: (Blue)

1: MC, SC 4 [4]

2: SC in each stitch around [4]

3: INC x2, SC in last 2 stitches [6]

4: INC x4, SC in last 2 stitches [10]

5: (INC, 1 SC) x5 [15]

6: SC in each stitch around [15]

7: (DEC, SC ) x 5 [10]

8: SC in each stitch around [10]

Pinch the opening of the ears between your fingers and slip stitch evenly across both sides of the ear closing the opening. Fold the two outer corners of the ear together and slip stitch through both, making a knot, and shaping a dent inside the ears. Leave a strand of yarn to sew the ears to the head.

The ear tips should be pointing inwards, towards each other. Attach the ears between rounds 4 and 5 counting from the top of the head.

4-5: SC in each stitch around [8]

6: (1 SC, INC) x4 [12] – stuff the horn a little

slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the horn onto the forehead between rounds 4 and 6 counting from the top of the head.

MANE:

Colour D/E: (Pink and Yellow)

Pink hairpiece steps – to repeat when making the tail

1: CH 18, DC in the second chain from the hook, DC in each of the remaining 16 Chains [17]

2: Chain 18 from the base of the last DC you made, DC in the second CH from the hook, and DC in each of the remaining 16 chains. [17]

3: Repeat step ‘2” four times till you have six strands of hair.

SLPst and leave a strand of yarn the same length of the hair piece to sew the hair down the middle of the head

(Repeat 1-3) x 1 Pink hairpiece and x1 Yellow hairpiece. It is optional to make more strands or make more than 6 strands in each piece of hair.

Pin the hair down between the ears and down the back of the head and attach them using a whipstitch with your tapestry needle

 

TAIL:

Repeat the steps of the mane, instead of 18 chains, only chain 15. Make two hair pieces, one yellow, and one pink.

Attach the tail by folding the hair piece in half and sewing it onto the body of the unicorn. Attach one hairpiece on top of the other between rounds 6 and 7 counting from the bottom of the body.
