What will you need to make this chicken?

I used ELLE Yarns ( Charity Pullskein DK) to create this pattern. 

Any acrylic, cotton or velvet yarn will work just fine with this patterns as amigurumi is very versatile and don’t need to be a specific weight. 

Double knit: Light worsted weight yarn/ Weight 4 yarn – 60m/66yrds

You will need a 3.5mm hook, stuffing and 12mm safety eyes.

Yarn Needed:

Double knit/ light worsted weight yarn

 

Hook size:

3.5mm crochet hook

Colours:

Colour A: Body 15g Colour B: Body 15g Colour C : Beak/feet 10g Colour D: Comb/Wattle 5g

A Little bit of white embroidery floss for the facial details.

Other tools and materials:

Scissors Stuffing 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional) Stitch marker Tapestry needle

MC: Magic Ring
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half double crochet
DC: Double crochet
TC: Trebble crochet
INC: INCrease
DEC: DECrease
SLP: Slip-stitch
CH: Chain
FLO/ BLO: Front loop only/ Back loop only
Puff: Puff stitch

Pattern Explanation:

BODY:

23: (1 SC, INC) x6 [18]

24: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

25: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

26: FLO/ DC x 3 in each stitch around [90] – end with a slip stitch and cut the yarn.

Colour B: (Light brown)

“Attach the light brown to the BL of round 26″

27: BLO/(4 SC, INC) x6 [36] – Stuff the neck

28-29: SC in each stitch around [36] 

30: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

Fasten off and close the opening with the remaining yarn tail. Cross-sew the needle through each stitch and pull tight to close the opening.

Beak:

Colour C: (Yellow)

1: MC, SC 5 [5]

2: SC in each stitch around [5]

3: INC x5 [10]

slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the beak onto the face between rounds 14 and 19- After you attach the wattle.

The Wattle:

Colour D: (Red)

Insert your hook in the front loop of round 4 of the beak, pull up a loop, and chain 2, DC x2 in the same stitch, CH2, and slip stitch all in the same stitch. SC in the front loop of the next stitch, CH2, DC x2 in the same stitch, CH2 and slip stitch into the same stitch. Cut the yarn. Knot the two yarn tails of the wattle together and hide the ends within the beak.

The Comb:

Colour D: (Red)

1: CH 10, (HDC, DC, TC, DC, HDC) in the 3rd chain from the hook, SC in the next chain, Repeat (…) and SC in the next stitch till you reach the end of your 10 chain ending with an SC. you will have 4 shells in your row. Slip stitch and cut a yarn a little longer than the length of the comb for sewing.

Attach the comb in the center of the head. Two shells on either side of the Magic ring at the top of the head

FEET:

Colour C: (Yellow)

1: MC, SC 5 [5]

2-3: SC in each stitch around [5] *2 Rounds*

4: (INC ) x5 [10]

5: (1 SC, INC) x5 [15]

6: CH 4, Skip 4 stitches and continue the round of sc from stitch 5 [15]

7: SC in the back loop of the (chain 4), SC as normal in each of the SC stitches [15]

8: SC in each stitch around [15]

Pinch the opening of the feet between your fingers and PUFF stitch,ch1, SC next to it, create another to puffs

LEGS:

Colour C: (Yellow)

1: Insert your hook into the first stitch of the opening on top of the foot. SC in each stitch [4], now working into the “Front section of the foot” SC in each stitch of the front loop you left when doing round 6 of the feet. [8]

2-3: SC in each stitch around [8] *2 Rounds* –stuff the feet a little and the leg more firmly

Slipstitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the legs onto the body between rounds 2/3 counting from the body. Make sure the toes point outwards. You can also attach the legs between round 3/5 (12 stitches apart) if you want your chicken in a sitting position.

TAIL:

Colour B: (Light brown)

1: MC,6 SC [6]

2: SC in each stitch around [6]

3: INC x6 [12]

4: SC in each stitch around [12]

End off with a slip stitch, pinch the opening of the tail between your fingers, Insert hook through both sides of your piece, and slip stitch 6 across, turn your work, and CH2, DC x3 in the next stitch, SC in the next stitch, DC x4 in the next stitch, SC and DC x4 in the next stitch, end with a slip stitch in the last stitch.

Leave a strand of yarn to sew the tail onto the back of you chicken between rounds 4/5 counting from the bottom
