I had so much fun designing this super cute moose pattern, it is the easy and beginner friendly. If you have wanted to make one off my patterns I would highly recommend trying this one! This super cute crochet Moose snuggler can be made with any weight yarn, just be adjusting your hook size accordantly.

Size of the crochet Moose: If you use the recommended size hook and yarn weight the pattern provides, the hippo will be 28cm/ 11.08 inches.

Skills: This is a beginner-friendly pattern. Basic amigurumi crochet skills are needed. Magic ring, Single crochet, increase and decrease. 

What you will need to crochet this cuddle me Moose

  • 3.5mm hook
  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle
  • Wire pet grooming brush for mane

Yarn: Double knit / light worsted weight yarn

For this Moose I used Elle Gold I got from Bibi’s Wool Center.

  • Colour A: Body 60g
  • Colour B: Horns 20g
  • Colour C: Hoofs 15g
  • White cotton for the eye highlight

Abbreviations and explanations

  • MC: Magic Ring
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • DC: Double crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip stitch
  • CH: Chain
  • BLO: Back loop only

How to turn an amigurumi pattern in to a low sew pattern

Here is the free moose pattern:

Head:

Colour A: (Light brown)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9: (7 SC, INC) x6 [54]

10-16: SC in each stitch around [54] 

Insert the eyes between rounds 10/11, with 6 stitches visible between them. (Insert the eyes on the left side of your round end, first eye 11 stitches from the beginning of the round)

17: (7 SC, DEC) x6 [48]

18: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]

19: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

20: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

21: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

22: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]stuff head firmly

23: In the BLO (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12] (Place a stitch marker in the first front loop of this round)

24: (DEC) x6 [6] – close the head, weave in tail

SMALL HORN: (Make two)

COLOUR B:(White)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4-6: SC in each stitch around [18] *3 Rounds*

7: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

8-9: SC in each stitch around [12] *2 Rounds*

End with a slipstitch and attach the small horn onto the first horn between rounds 12/15 counting from the tip of the large horn.

BIG HORNS: (Make two)

COLOUR B:(White)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6-7: SC in each stitch around [30] 

8: (DEC x6) SC 18 [24]

9: (DEC x 6) SC 12 [18]

10-13: SC in each stitch [18]

14: (1 SC, DEC) x 6 [12]

15-20: SC in each stitch [12] 

End off with a slip stitch, leaving a strand of yarn to sew the horns onto the head. Attach the horns between rounds 5-9 counting from the top of the head.

Change to colour A: (Light brown)

8-20: SC in each stitch around [12] Stuff the legs till round 19

End off with a slip stitch, pinch the opening of the arm between your fingers, and slip stitch or SC 6 across to close the front legs. Weave in the yarn strand

Leave a strand of yarn long enough to sew the nose against the face. The nose and blaze should be attached between rounds 12-21. Leave a small opening to firmly stuff the nose before sewing it against the head.

 

Nostrils: Take some of the dark brown yarn that you used for the hoofs and create two nostrils at the top of the nose between rounds 6/7 counting from the front of the nose, with 7 stitches between them. Each nostril is 3/4 stitches in length.

Ear fold: Fold the bottom of the ear in half, using your tapestry needle, make a knot with the yarn tail to keep the two outer corners of the ear together.

Leave a long strand of yarn to sew the ear onto the head between

rounds 10-11 on either side of the head under the horn.

Attach the back legs to the bottom of the body as you SC across. Fold the body in half and make sure the feet line up with the face, If not, slip stitch to the side till it is lined up. Place first leg and SC 6 across {Through the leg stitches, and both sides of the body} Sc next 3 stitches, Place the second leg, SC 6 across through the leg and body. End off with a slip stitch, cut the yarn, and weave in the end.

With white cotton yarn, place a long loop stitch against the outer corner of the eye. be careful not to pull it so tight that it slips under the eyes.
