Free turkey pattern

This turkey is worked from the head down to the body all in one piece. 

The wings and tail is also one section with simple colour changes in between. The wattle is crochet onto the beak before you attach the beak to the face.

Size of the crochet turkey: If you use the recommended size hook and yarn weight the pattern provides, the turkey will be 18cm

Skills: This is a beginner-friendly pattern. Basic amigurumi crochet skills are needed. Magic ring, Single crochet, increase and decrease. 

What you will need to crochet this little turkey

  • 3.5mm hook
  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

Yarn: Double knit / light worsted weight yarn

For this Turkey I used  Elle Gold I got from Bibi’s Wool Center.

  • Colour A: Body 15g
  • Colour B: Body 15g
  • Colour C : Beak/feet 10g
  • Colour D: Wattle/tail 5g

  • HDC: Half Double crochet
  • INC: INCrease

Color A: (Dark Brown)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) x6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

9-16: SC in each stitch [48] 

(If using safety eyes: Place eyes between rounds 12-13, 10 visible stitches apart)

17: (6 SC, DEC) x6 [42]

18: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

19: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

20: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

21: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18] – Stuff the head firmly

BODY:

23: (1 SC, INC) x6 [18]

24: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

25: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

26: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36] – Stuff the neck

27-28: SC in each stitch around [36] 

29: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

30: SC in each stitch around [42]

31: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36]

32: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

33: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

34: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

35: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12] – Stuff the body firmly

36: (DEC) x6 [6]

Fasten off and close the opening with the remaining yarn tail. Cross-sew the needle through each stitch and pull tight to close the opening.

Beak:

Colour C: (Yellow)

1: MC, SC 5 [5]

2: SC in each stitch around [5]

3: INC x5 [10]

4: SC in each stitch around [10]

slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the beak onto the face between rounds 13 and 17- After you attach the wattle.

The Wattle:

Colour D: (Red)

Insert your hook in the front loop of round 4 of the beak, pull up a loop, and chain 10, HDC in the second chain from the hook, HDC in the remaining chains [9], Slip stitch back into the first sitch were you started your chain.

Attach the beak:

Sew the beak between rounds 13-17 counting from the top of the head.

Stuff the beak a little. When sewing the beak to the face you need to make sure the wattle is on top of the beak. When Attaching the beak I just made a small stitch through the wattle to secure it to the side of the beak so that it can hang down the side.

Facial details:

With white cotton thread, you will create the “Highlights” of the eyes. First start by creating a loop stitch around the bottom section of the first safety eye. Push the needle through to the other side and create the second loop under the other eye. Push the needle back through to the entering point, not the two tails together, and weave in the ends.

FEET:

Colour C: (Yellow)

1: MC, SC 5 [5]

2-3: SC in each stitch around [5] 

4: (INC ) x5 [10]

5: (1 SC, INC) x5 [15]

6: CH 4, Skip 4 stitches and continue the round of sc from stitch 5 [15]

7: SC in the back loop of the (chain 4), SC as normal in each of the SC stitches [15]

8: SC in each stitch around [15]

Pinch the opening of the feet between your fingers and PUFF stitch,ch1, SC next to it, create another two puffs

LEGS:

Colour C: (Yellow)

1: Insert your hook into the first stitch of the opening on top of the foot. SC in each stitch [4], now working into the “Front section of the foot” SC in each stitch of the front loop you left when doing round 6 of the feet. [8]

2-3: SC in each stitch around [8]  –stuff the feet a little and the leg more firmly

Slipstitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the legs onto the body. attach the legs between rounds 3/5 (12 stitches apart) if you want your Turkey in a sitting position and between rounds 2/3 count from the body to make it stand on his feet. Make sure the toes point outwards

WINGS : (Make two)

Colour A: (Dark Brown)

1: MC,6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

5: SC in each stitch around [18] End with a slip stitch, cut, and leave a strand of yarn that you will pull through the top of the wing for sewing.

Reattach colour C: (Yellow)

Pinch the wing’s opening between your fingers, Create 9 slip stitches through both sides, turn your work, and ch2, DC x3 in the first stitch. SC in the next stitch, DC x4 in the next stitch, repeat {SC, DCx4 } x2 ending with sc, cut the yarn, and weave in the end.

Attach the wing under between rounds 26/27 with the bottom of the wings facing downwards.

TAIL:

Colour B: (Light brown)

1: MC,6 SC [6]

2: SC in each stitch around [6]

Leave a strand of the light brown yarn to attach the tail between round 4/5 counting from the bottom of the body.

End off with a slip stitch, pinch the opening of the tail between your fingers, Insert hook through both sides of your piece, and slip stitch 12 across, turn your work, Reattach with Colour D: (Red) yarn; CH2, DC x3 in the next stitch, SC in the next stitch, DC x4 in the next stitch, SC and DC x4 in the next stitch, end with a slip stitch in the last stitch.
