This week I have taken an very old pattern that is no longer in my shops and gave it a complete makeover. 

In this blog post I will be giving the basic bear pattern for free for you to make.

How to read amigurumi patterns and grab your free guide

If you don’t know how to read amigurumi pattern you can visit my post about the topic HERE.

What you will need to crochet this Bear:

Yarn Needed:

Double knit/ light worsted weight yarn, I used Charity Double Knit from Elle yarns

  • Colour A: 60g (Brown)
  • Colour B: 20g (Red)
  • Colour C: 15g (Dark Green)
  • Colour D: 15g (Light Green)
  • Colour E: 30g (White)
  • Black and white embroidery thread for eyes and brown yarn for the nose

 

  • 3.5mm (E) hook
  • 12/14mm safety eyes
  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

ABBREVIATIONS AND EXPLANATIONS

  • MC: Magic Ring
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • INC: INCrease
  • DEC: DECrease
  • SLP: Slip-stitch
  • CH: Chaiin

Repeat the stitch sequence between (…..) by the amount stated next to it. The pattern is written in US terms

The amount of each stitch at end of each round is shown in the […] Working in continuous rounds with your stitch marker

Head:

Colour A: (Brown)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) X6 [24]

5: (3 SC, INC) x6 [30]

6: (4 SC, INC) x6 [36]

7: (5 SC, INC) x6 [42]

8: (6 SC, INC) x6 [48]

Safety eyes will be placed rounds 13-14, 7 stitches visible between eyes

9-17: SC in each stitch around [48] 

18: (6 SC, DEC) x 6 [42]

19: (5 SC, DEC) x6 [36] – stuff the head

20: (4 SC, DEC) x6 [30]

21: (3 SC, DEC) x6 [24]

22: (2 SC, DEC) x 6 [18] – stuff the head fully at this point

Slip stitch and weave in the end.

MUZZLE:

Colour A: (Brown)

1: CH5, (2 SC in 2nd chain from hook), SC in next 2 stitches, 4 SC in the last stitch. Now working on the opposite side of the chain5, SC in the next 2 stitches, 2SC in the last stitch. [12]

(Work in continuous rounds)

2: (1SC, INC) x6 [18]

3: (2SC, INC) x6 [24]

4: (3 x INC), SC 6, (3 x INC) SC last 12 stitches [30]

5: SC in each stitch around [30]

6: (3SC, DEC ) x6 [24]

7: SC in each stitch around [24] – stuff the muzzle

End with a slip stitch, stuff the nose, and sew it on between rounds 14-18.

NOSE DETAILS:

Start with a triangle on the top part of the muzzle in the center, Make the outline of the triangle and fill it in with long vertical stitches. Use Black yarn to create the split for the lips and out line the nose on the muzzle.

Ears (Make two) (no stuffing needed)

Colour A: (Brown)

1: SC 5 in the MC [5]

2: INC x5 [10]

3: (1SC, INC) x5 [15]

4-5: SC in each stitch around [15] 

6: (1 SC, DEC) x5 [10]

Hold the ear between your thumb and index finger and slip stitch 5 across closing the bottom of the ear. End with a slip stitch, Leave a strand of yarn to sew the ears between rounds 3-7 from the center of the head.

Facial Features:

Eyes: Use some white cotton yarn to pull the eyes in closer and add the white highlight to the outer corners of each eye.

Extra features:

You can add brows and lashes. Use black embroidery thread above each eye of the bear. T

brows can be placed between rounds 8-9 at a slight angle, the inner side of the brow should be at the highest point.

Arms (Make two)

Colour A: (Brown)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: SC in each stitch around [18] – stuff the paw

5: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

6-18: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12]  – stuff the arm lightly till round 16

Pinch the opening of the arms flat between your thumb and index finger, slip stitch or SC 6 across the arm, end with a slip stitch, and weave in the end crocheting in the arms at round 25 of the body

Legs(Make two)

Colour A: (Brown)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3: (SC, INC) X6 [18]

4: (2 SC, INC) x6 [24]

5: SC in each stitch around [24] – stuff the paw

6: (2 SC, DEC) x6 [18]

7: (SC, DEC) x6 [12]

8-20: SC in each stitch around. [12] 

Pinch the opening of the legs flat between your thumb and index finger, slip stitch or SC 6 across the legs, closing the top. End with a slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the legs to the body between rounds 2-7

TAIL:

Colour A: (Brown)

1: MC, 6 SC [6]

2: INC x6 [12]

3-5: SC in each stitch around [12] – Stuff the tail

6: (SC, DEC) x 3 [9]

End with a slip stitch, and sew the tail on between rounds 6-9 counting from the bottom of the body. Leave a small opening to finish stuffing the tail before the sewing is closed completely.
