Rufus the lovey lion pattern

Rufus the lovey lion pattern is a friendly safari chap ready to warm any small heart.

how to crochet a lovey

Rufus is the second safari animal pattern from my cuddle collection. My first was Geo, the giraffe cuddle buddy.
These “cuddle me” crochet patterns are a mixture of an amigurumi and a lovey blanket. What makes them different from your classic lovey patterns is that they are crocheted in one piece.

Rufus, the lovey lion, is the perfect addition to a safari-themed nursery.
The lion cuddle me buddy is worked in continuous rounds. This Lovey pattern is written in US terms and contains basic SC and DC stitches. The head and body (Blanket) section of the body is crocheted in one piece, making this lovey easy to assemble.
The limbs and tail are sewed on afterward. If you are experienced with a no-sew pattern, you can crochet the limbs and attach them later.

Let's talk about the hair!

With these loveys, I try to keep to hair that is not too stringy because a new little person will be using this lovey to snuggle with, and we don’t want them to get their fingers wrapped up in pieces of wool when they are sleeping.
Rufus’s mane consists of chained loops that are thick and short and can’t be wrapped quickly around little fingers. The hair is also perfect for grabbing hold when little one want’s to carry him around!

The mane is made in 5 different sections. I designed it this way so you can easily handle the loose hair pieces while sewing them to the back of the head in a spiral motion.

The best part of the designing proses of this lion lovey was his big feet! I knew when I started this design that he had to have big floppy paws!
When you make your own Rufus, I hope you will enjoy making him just as much as I do.
