How to start your own crochet business

Free resources and tips I used to build my crochet business

How I Launched My Crochet Business

One of the most common questions I receive is about how I began my crochet business and the advice I can offer those looking to start their own. In this post, I’ll share my personal tips I used to grow my business and share the free resources I found and still rely on to improve and grow my business. These efforts have allowed me to build a following of nearly 90,000 followers and do my business full-time.

What You Need to Know as a Crochet Seller

Selling your handmade crochet items isn’t just about being good at making cute things. There is so much stuff in the background of your business to make it work and be successful. It’s about showing up consistently online, presenting your work well, and learning how to attract the right customers.

Here are some simple steps to follow when wanting to start a crochet business and sell your products:

  1. Take high-quality photos
Using natural light and a clean background is a must. If you can, include photos of your item being used (like holding a plushie, wearing a beanie, etc.).
  2. Be consistent online
Posting once a week is better than five posts in one day and then disappearing for a month. Show up regularly, even if it’s just a story or one post every two to three days. Going days, week or even months between post can prevent your page from showing up in searches.
  3. Don’t use AI-generated images
If you’re selling finished items, your photos need to show what you actually made. Customers want to see the real thing, not a digital mockup.
  4. Follow and learn from trusted crochet biz mentors
Some amazing creators give away free content to help you grow, without gatekeeping.

Now let’s talk about the helpful and free resources I used to build my business

Final Thoughts

You absolutely can build a crochet business selling your finished items, and you don’t have to do it alone or spend a fortune to get started.

By focusing on:

  • High-quality photos
  • Consistency online
  • Real, honest visuals of your products
  •  Learning from trusted creators like Ashley and Pam

You’ll already be way ahead of where most people start.

So, if you’re ready to turn your crochet hobby into something more, start small, learn a little each week, and take action. You’ve got this! It has taken me 5 years to get where I am today, and I’m still learning every single day. I often listen to podcasts or read blog posts to see where and how I can improve my business. Take one day at a time; unfortunately, this isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, and it may take you a couple of weeks, months, or even years, but it is possible when you strive to learn and stay consistent.
