The Colour Dance beanie and scarf have been designed for Elle Aran 300g skein, but you can use any Aran weight yarn to create this piece.
This easy Ribbed HDC stitch on repeat creates a beautifully warm and modern hat that is worked from left to write in one long section, the same goes for the scarf.
Elle Saprotex International sent me one skein of Elle Aran 300g in the colour Rio and requested that I design a very simple easy to follow beanie and scarf pattern using only ONE skein.
This was such a fun challenge and I will definitely be making more of these sets as they just take a couple of hours to make.
Here is the FREE pattern

Stitch Abbreviations for beanie and scarf:
- CH: Chain
- HDC: Half double crochet
- BLO: Back loop only
- FLO: Front loop only
- TYW: Turn your work
Additional notes:
- BLO: Back loop only, this is when you only work in the loop facing away from you when you look at your stitches from above
- FLO: Front loop only, this is when you only work in the loop facing you (Closest to your body)
- HDC: Yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through all loops on your hook.
Alternating between Back and Front loop:
When you look at your stitches from above you will see two loops. The loop that is the closest to your body is the FRONT LOOP (Pink) and the loop facing away from you is the BACK LOOP (purple). You will only be inserting your hook under one of these loops at a time doing this stitching method.
Measure to size:
This pattern is written without specifying head sizing, The stitch count in the pattern below will fit adult women and some men. If you are making it for kids you can follow the guide for measurements below. To add a cuff you will have to adjust the length of the hat by 2″ / 5cm.
THE RIBBED CAT BEANIE:
1: Ch42, HDC in the 3rd loop from the hook, HDC in the rest of the remaining chain [40]
2: CH2, BLO, HDC in each stitch across, TYW [40]
3: CH2, BLO, HDC in each stitch across, TYW [40]
4-49: Repeat rows 2-3 [40] (don’t cut your yarn)
Assembling:
1:Lay your hat flat and fold it in half (Rows 1 and 49 should be on top of each other) Slip stitch or SC both rows together to close off the edge of the hat.
2: Slip stitch or SC evenly across the top of the hat to close it. slip stitch, weaving in the ends, and turn your hat inside out.
The ears:
This is just an extra step, not really necessary I just like that the ears have more definition this way.
1: Take a strand of yarn and sew the ears in place. If looking at your work as a rectangle, with your needle sew the edge together at a 45-degree angle. weave in the ends.
Save this pattern for later!
THE SCARF:
1: Ch22, HDC in the 3rd loop from the hook, HDC in the rest of the remaining chain [20]
Note: From row 2 you will be alternating your HDC between the Back and Front loop.

3: Repeat row 2 till you have reached the desired length you want for the scarf or continue till you have finished the 300g skein [20]
