Penguin turned into a plushy

Bibi’s Wool Center sent me some Alize Velluto velvet yarn and one of my main goals was to make my small amigurumi patterns with this lovely plush yarn.

Because this yarn is so plush and bulky everything you make with it comes out much bigger than the original pattern!

With Keto the Penguin I followed the pattern as I have written in originally I just made some minor changes to the hat, feet and wings and you can find that adjustments in this post.

Join my Facebook group for pattern updates, new releases, sales and much more. Also feel free to post a photo of this penguin in my group! Would love to see them all!

For the plush penguin I used:

18mm Safety eyes and a 4.5mm hook.

  • 2x Skein of the black yarn
  • 1X Skein of the vanilla
  • and a little bit of the Gold for the feet and beak.
  • Half a skein of light blue for the hat
  • Soft white acrylic for the pompom

WINGS:

For the wings I had to remake them because the wings in the original pattern was to small

1: MC, 5 SC [5]

2: (INC) x5 [10]

3: (INC,SC) x5 [15]

4: SC in each stitch around [15]

5: (INC, SC2) x5 [20]

6-8: SC in each stitch around [20]

7: (DEC, SC2) x5 [15]

8: (DEC, SC ) x5 [10]

9-10: SC in each stitch around [10]

Fold the wing in half between your index and thumb, slip stitch 5 across the top of the wing to close it up. slip stitch and leave a strand of yarn to sew the wing to the body.

The Hat:

The hat’s amount of rows and length stayed the same, depending on your tension you will just have to keep on measuring it as you add more rows.

The pompom I made using one of my pompom makers I bought from a Yarn store and just used plain acrylic yarn and brushed it out to make it fluffy.

FEET:

I made the feet shorter, I also did not close the back of the feet and sewed in on directly to the front of the body.

1: CH5, (2 SC in 2nd chain from hook), SC in next 2 stitches, 4 SC in the last stitch. Now working on the opposite side of the chain5, SC in the next 2 stitches, 2SC in the last stitch. [12]

2: (1SC, INC) x6 [18]

3: SC in each stitch around [18]

4: (1 SC, DEC) x6 [12]

5: SC in each stitch around [12]

Part two of the head:

All changes I made there was the amount of rounds from round 9. Instead of doing 8 rounds I only did 6 rounds.
