Penny the cow is a free crochet-a-long hosted by me, Yarn Over with Natasha for the month of April! 

Penny the Cow is a minimal sewing pattern covered in cute heart shaped spots. In the pattern is included how to attach the limbs of Penny as you create the body.

With a 3.5mm hook, roughly about 150g/ 5,29 Oz (349m/ 381.67yards) of light worsted weight/DK/ weight 3 yarn, some beginner-level sewing skills in amigurumi, you can create your very own Penny the cow plushie in no time.

Size of the crochet cow: If you use the recommended size hook and yarn weight the pattern provides, the cow will be around 30cm/11,81 inches. The cow can be bigger or smaller, depending on yarn choice, hook, and tension. but that is the fun part about Amigurumi; no test swatches are needed.

SKILLS:

This is intermediate pattern. Basic amigurumi crochet skills are needed. Magic ring, Single crochet, increase and decrease. But also other techniques, puff stitches, Double crochet and Treble crochet. We will be starting with the arms and legs, move on to the body and then the head, ear and horns in the last sections of this crochet-a-long.

What is a crochet-a-long?

Crochet-a-long or CAL is when a pattern is split into a few parts, and each section of the pattern is released on different dates set by the designer. Crochet-a-long is a fun project for people to finish over a certain amount of time.

How to take part of the crochet a long

There is two options to get notified when the CAL starts and when the next section of the CAL will be released.

What you will need to crochet this cow pattern

Yarn Needed:

Double knit/light worsted yarn

  • Colour A: Nose 10g
  • Colour B: Face/body/Legs 60g
  • Colour C: spots and ears30g
  • Colour D: Horns 10g
  • Colour E: Hoofs 30g
  • black embroidery thread for lashes
  • scissors
  • stuffing
  • 10/12 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

Crochet hook:

3.5mm Hook
